The Mirror of Truth

Saturday, Feb 21

1 John 1:8 (NLT) — “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.”

To deny our sin is to live in a house without mirrors. We walk through life with soot on our faces and grease on our clothes, wondering why the world feels cold and why our relationships feel strained, yet we insist to anyone who asks that we are perfectly clean. This self-delusion is a secondary cage; first, we are trapped by the sin itself, and then we are trapped by the lie that we are fine. Denial acts as a spiritual anesthetic, numbing us to the very wounds that are currently bleeding us dry.

The “Truth” is not a gentle suggestion; it is a sharp, surgical light. It is painful to behold because it reveals every blemish, every wrinkle of pride, and every scar of selfishness we thought we had buried. However, it is only in this exposure that the healing of the soul can begin. To admit we are “fooling ourselves” is the first step toward sanity. We must stop arguing with the mirror and finally agree with God about what He sees: a person in desperate need of a Physician.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, shine Your light into my denial. Drive me from my own lies into the saving truth and healing touch of Jesus. Amen.
