The Infinite Gap

Sunday Feb 22

Romans 3:23 (NLT) — “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Picture a vast, bottomless canyon. On one side stands the blinding, terrifying holiness of God—a sun that never sets and a purity that consumes everything false. We stand on the other side, attempting to leap across the chasm of our own making. Some of us may jump further than others; some may lead lives of great moral discipline and public respectability. But whether we fall inches from the ledge or halfway across, the result is identical: the abyss. The distance is too great, and the gravity of our nature pulls us down.

Our failure is universal, leaving us stranded in the cold shadows of the valley. There is no hierarchy on the canyon floor; the “good” person and the “bad” person are equally incapable of reaching the Light. To realize the depth of our sin is to face the silence of this gap and accept that we are utterly stranded. If we are to reach the other side, the Bridge must be built by God Himself. This is where we look to Jesus, who did not stay on the far side, but crossed over into our darkness to carry us across the divide that we could never navigate alone.

Prayer: Father, I admit that I cannot reach You on my own. I surrender my pride and look to Christ, the only Bridge over the abyss I created. Amen.
