The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.” — John 10:11

We are often like sheep—prone to wandering, easily frightened, and defenseless against the predators of despair and temptation. The world offers many “hired hands” who claim to care for us but abandon us the moment the wolves appear. But Jesus identifies Himself as the Good Shepherd, the one whose devotion is measured by His scars. He knows us by name, understands our frailty, and refuses to let us go. His leadership is not one of coercion, but of sacrificial love that led Him straight to the cross for our sake.

Because He is our Shepherd, we can rest in the green pastures of His providence. We don’t have to navigate the dangers of life on our own; we simply need to listen for His voice and follow. His rod and staff protect us even when we are unaware of the danger, and His commitment to us is so total that He laid down His very life to ensure our safety. In His care, we find the ultimate security, knowing that nothing can snatch us out of His hand or separate us from the watchful eye of Jesus.

Prayer: I am so grateful, Lord, that You did not leave me to wander alone in my brokenness. Thank You for laying down Your life to save me and for leading me with such gentleness and strength. Help me to recognize Your voice today above the noise of the world and to follow You wherever You lead. Amen.
