“Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!’” — John 8:58
When Jesus used the phrase “I AM,” He was claiming the very name of God revealed to Moses at the burning bush. We are confronted here with the staggering reality of His eternal nature. He is not just a historical figure or a great teacher; He is the self-existent, uncreated Creator who stands outside of time. Before our problems existed, He was. Before our ancestors walked the earth, He was. Before time began, He was. This statement anchors our nature in the unchanging sovereignty of a God who is not bound by the limitations of time and space.
The “I AM” is our steady anchor in a world of shifting sand. When our lives feel fragile and our hearts feel thin, we are held by the One who needs nothing, yet gives everything. He is the “I AM” who enters the deep ache of every “I am not” in our stories. He becomes the strength we lack and the peace we cannot find on our own. To recognize His divinity is to find rest in the breathtaking truth that the God who spoke light into the void is the same one who whispers our names and knows us completely in the person of Jesus.
Prayer: Eternal God, I bow before Your majesty and Your unchanging nature. I am so small, but I am held by the Great I AM who is over all things and in all things. I trust my past, my present, and my future into Your sovereign hands today. Amen.
