The Anchor Stone

“The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” — Psalm 118:22

Originally part of a Hallel psalm sung during the great feasts, this verse describes a stone that the masons cast aside as useless, only for it to be discovered as the most essential piece of the structure. Jesus later applied this specifically to Himself in the temple courts, warning the religious leaders that by rejecting Him, they were missing the very foundation of what God was building in the world.

The world looked at Jesus and saw a stone that didn’t fit their blueprints—a stumbling block to their power. But God reached into the dust and placed that rejected Stone at the very peak of the foundation. Jesus invites us to build our lives upon this Cornerstone. When everything else shifts like sinking sand—our careers, our health, our reputations—this Stone remains immovable. We are called to anchor our souls into the One who holds all things together: Jesus.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You for the solid foundation I have in Christ. Forgive me for trying to build my life on my own terms or on the shifting sands of this world. Today, I choose to align every part of my life with Jesus, my Cornerstone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
