The Angelic Proclamation

Verse: “Then the angel spoke to the women. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.’” — Matthew 28:5-6

The morning air was thick with the scent of spices and the heavy, rhythmic thud of grieving hearts walking toward a final goodbye. The women expected to find a corpse, a cold slab, and the crushing weight of a sealed stone. Instead, they encountered a celestial being whose appearance was like the core of a furnace, sitting atop the very obstacle that was meant to keep the world out and the Savior in. The proclamation “He isn’t here!” is the most explosive sentence in human language, for it announces that the physical laws of the universe have been rewritten by the Author of Life.

This invitation to “come, see” is an invitation to move from the evidence of death to the evidence of victory. We are often tempted to look for God in the places of our past failures or within the limitations of our own “dead” circumstances. But the angel reminds us that our Savior is not a memory to be preserved; He is a Reality to be followed. The empty tomb is the birthplace of our courage, proving that every word He spoke is true and every promise He made is reliable in Jesus.

Prayer: Precious Father, I thank You for the message that echoed through the garden and changed the course of history forever. Help me to move past my small expectations and my tendency to linger at the gravesides of my own disappointments. Open my eyes to see the obstacles You have already rolled away and the path You have cleared for my feet. I choose to seek the living Savior and to build my hope on the glorious reality of the risen Jesus. Amen.
