Psalm 23 Day 6: Jehovah Tsidkenu – My Righteousness

Verse: “He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3b)

The name Jehovah Tsidkenu (pronounced see-kin-oo found in Jeremiah 23:6) declares that the Lord Himself is our righteousness, providing the moral standing and direction we could never achieve on our own. Because we lack this inherent direction, we must observe how sheep naturally create “ruinous paths” that lead to erosion and barren land; left to themselves, they will walk the same destructive trails until the ground is dead. The Shepherd, however, knows the “right paths”—the tracks that lead to higher ground and fresh forage.

Jehovah Tsidkenu provides the compass we lack, guiding us into a way of being that aligns with His holy character. He guides us not because we are perfect, but because His own “Name”—His reputation as a good and holy God—is at stake in the way we live our lives. Seeking Jehovah Tsidkenu involves a daily surrender of our “right” to choose our own way.

We recognize His guidance in the sudden conviction to be honest when it’s difficult, the impulse to show mercy when we want to judge, and the quiet “no” that keeps us from a tempting but destructive decision. We encounter Him when we realize that our own goodness is like “filthy rags,” and we joyfully put on the robe of His righteousness instead. As we walk these higher paths, we find that living for His glory is actually the most fulfilling way to live for ourselves. The way forward is made straight by the holiness of Jehovah Tsidkenu.

Prayer: Jehovah Tsidkenu, My Righteousness, I ask You to take the lead in my decisions, my words, and my thoughts today. Guide me onto the paths that reflect Your holiness rather than my own selfish desires. When I reach a crossroad, make Your way clear to me for Your Name’s sake. I joyfully put on the robe of Your righteousness, Jehovah Tsidkenu. Amen.
