Verse: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6a)
The name Jehovah Hased (Psalm 136:1) identifies God as the source of “Unfailing Love”—the relentless, covenant-keeping mercy and loving-kindness that refuses to let us go. As we look toward our final destination, we can picture two “sheepdogs” named Goodness and Mercy, sent by the Shepherd to trot at your heels and keep you moving toward home. Jehovah Hased is not passively watching us; He is actively hunting us with His love.
In the original language, the word “follow” actually means to “pursue” or “chase.” Jehovah Hased ensures that His mercy is more aggressive than our mistakes and His goodness is faster than our wandering. Seeking Jehovah Hased means living with an “eternal perspective” that recognizes we are being chased by Grace.
We recognize His pursuing love when we see mercy appearing in the rear-view mirror of our lives, transforming our past failures into part of His masterpiece. We encounter Him in the deep “homesickness” we feel for a world made right, a longing that only His steadfast love can satisfy. Recognizing this destiny gives us the courage to keep walking, knowing that every step brings us closer to the threshold of our true home. The journey is fueled by the relentless, steadfast mercy of Jehovah Hased.
Prayer: Jehovah Hased, My Steadfast Mercy, I thank You that Your goodness and mercy are chasing me down today. When I feel weary of the journey, remind me that Your love is pursuing me even when I don’t feel it. I stop running from Your grace and turn to embrace Your relentless mercy. I rest in the joy that Your kindness will sustain me all my days, Jehovah Hased. Amen.
