Psalm 91 Day 3: The Rescuer

For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. (Psalm 91:3)

Visualize the snapping jaws of a hidden snare, designed to catch unsuspecting travelers by the heel. Our lives are filled with these invisible “traps”—bitterness, addiction, or the sudden onset of calamity that seeks to bind us to our past. But imagine a hand reaching down, stronger than any steel or circumstance, prying the trap open before it can do its worst work. This is the imagery of a divine Guardian who sees the dangers we don’t—the “fowler’s snare” of spiritual deception—and moves with lightning speed to intercept them on our behalf.

This verse points to God as our Deliverer (Go’el), the one who redeems us from the pit. We live in a world that often feels like a minefield of “deadly disease” and unforeseen “traps,” but we are not victims of fate or random chance. God is actively patrolling the borders of our lives, exerting His providence over the microscopic and the monumental alike. Let our hearts be stirred by the fact that He is for us, and His redemptive nature means He is always in the business of setting captives free. We must trust His watchful eye, knowing that even when we cannot see the path ahead, He has already cleared the way.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for seeing the traps I am unaware of and for protecting me from the seen and unseen. I trust Your power to heal and Your strength to deliver me. Keep my feet on the path of life and away from the snares of the enemy. I rest in Your protective hand today. Amen.
